Drug Product Performance Characterization Survey Results Announced

October 28, 2013

A survey was conducted through the IQ Consortium members and IPEC members to understand the current practices between Pharmaceutical Companies and Excipient Suppliers during the development and throughout the lifecycle of a drug product. Through the understanding of the current practices and identification of challenges, improvement opportunities could be identified. The ultimate goal is to improve safety and efficacy of medical products for patient benefit.

Among the key findings from the survey is that while pharmaceutical companies and Excipient Suppliers work together in many situations, there may be opportunities to better leverage each other’s technical knowledge and abilities. In addition, the impact of excipients on drug product properties is being seen at commercial scale that may have been predicted during development. Additional research is recommended to further explore opportunities.
