3Rs Special Topics Journal
March 30, 2015
A JAALAS Special Topics Journal on the 3Rs, edited by the IQ 3Rs Leadership Group, was published in March. The issue, titled Global 3Rs Efforts: Making Progress and Gaining Momentum, highlights advances made by the global biomedical community in the replacement, reduction, and refinement, also known as the 3Rs, of animal studies. A diverse array of experts are featured in the journal to build a truly global picture of 3Rs science. Article topics include a review of Russell and Burch’s original 3Rs defintions; industry implementation of 3Rs above and beyond regulations; promotion of the 3Rs within the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America ; and possible applications of the 3Rs in biomedical research.
Letty Medina, Joachim Coenen, and Mike Kastello, co-editors of the Special Topics Journal and members of the IQ 3Rs Leadership Group, emphasized the use of scholarly information in the journal reviews. The co-editors believe this issue will help to demonstrate some of the progress and momentum of 3Rs scientific pursuits within the biomedical research community.
